Orchid Cancer Champions: Saving Lives through Experience
The event proudly highlights the participation of local volunteers known as Orchid Cancer Champions. Comprising Nottingham's local Black men and women, many of whom are prostate cancer survivors, these champions are profoundly committed to using their personal journeys and experiences to save lives. They actively engage with the community, spreading awareness and encouraging friends, family, and even strangers to prioritise men's health.
Prostate Cancer Awareness: A Critical Mission
Orchid states on their website that each year, 52,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. Tragically, approximately 11,500 will lose their lives to the disease, but many can also recover.
Statistics reveal that 1 in 4 Black men will face prostate cancer in their lifetime. Black men are at a higher risk of prostate cancer compared to other men, who have a 1 in 8 chance of being affected.
Patty Dumplin and Mon0lisa Productions: Creative Advocacy
Mon0lisa Productions, led by the visionary creative director Lisa Jackson, is a company dedicated to connecting messages with communities through innovative and accessible approaches. One of their standout creations is Patty Dumplin, a fictional comedy character developed in collaboration with the African Caribbean community. Patty Dumplin has been instrumental in conveying vital cardiovascular messages to the African Caribbean community, using Jamaican patois to bridge language and cultural gaps.

Lisa Jackson, the driving force behind Mon0lisa Productions, has garnered numerous accolades for her ground-breaking work. Supporting Men's Health, One Life at a Time
Lisa Jackson remains steadfast in her commitment to raising awareness about prostate cancer and its impact on Black men. She has shared a personal account of a close family friend who, upon being diagnosed with prostate cancer in his late 60s, expressed a desire to have had more knowledge about the disease to protect his sons from a similar fate. She underscores the significance of early detection and the potential to save lives through education.
Lisa Jackson, the creative force behind Mon0lisa Productions, passionately stated, "I organized this event to bridge the gap between knowledge and action. We want to empower Black men to take control of their health, to protect their futures. Let's make a difference, one life at a time."
Featuring an Exclusive Screening and Educational Discussion
In addition to the festive atmosphere, this event will also feature a special screening of three short films produced by Orchid Cancer UK, addressing vital aspects of prostate cancer.
